Analysis
1.       Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teacher? How relevant was/were the assessment method/s used?

Yes there was a validity of assessment methods for the teachers applied different methods in assessing their students. The assessment methods used were relevant with  the learning objectives and they are applied properly.

2.       Do you think the expected students’ learning behaviours indicated in the objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those assessment methods?

Yes, because the teacher applied the different assessment methods fairly with its validity and alignment with the learning targets.

My Reflections

Assessment is a need in education.Through this, teachers would be able to assess their selves if they really attained their learning targets. It is also a big help to them, because they would be able to know their students strengths and weaknesses.

Analysis

1.       Do you think the teacher’s learning objectives was appropriately assessed by your test items?

Yes, because the test items used to assess the students is correlated to the teacher’s learning objectives and test items was equally divided with different domains of learning.

2.       Why do you have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to developing an assessment tool?

Because the assessment tool to be develop will always depend on the set learning objective and should always be associated with them. This will enable us to choose the appropriate assessment toolsto be use and it helpus to have better understanding on how they will be applied.

Reflection
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings regarding Peace Concept on Focus. Share your reflection with your FS teacher and classmates.

EQUALITY in education can lead a peaceful and better learning process. As the students to their best while they are being assess, teachers must have fair and appropriate way of assessing them. They should always consider the learning the targets and the assessment tools to be used.
And as a future educator it is not a challenge for me but an OPPORTUNITY. That I should not only teach and make sure that my students understand the topic but it is an opportunity to show my love and respect to them, through exercising EQUALITY in all circumstances.

My Target
At the end of this activity, you will be informed on the principles of authentic assessment and its usefulness in the classroom.

My Task
Authentic assessment is an alternative way of assessing students’ learning to be able to use it, you must have a deep understanding of it. To help you reach your goal, do the following task:
1.       Visit a classroom and interview the teacher on his/her experiences in using authentic assessment.
2.       Describe how the teacher uses the authentic assessment.
3.       Write a reflective journal on the activity.

My Tools
For this learning activity, please document the information gathered from the interview with the teacher on authentic assessment. Write your documentation using the activity form provided for you.

MY INTERVIEW NOTES

his subject matter requires different skills to be learned. So as a teacher I choose to apply the authentic assessment. Because through this my students will have an experience in real world environment. They learn as they put it into action the given task to them.

1.       What is Authentic Assessment?

This is the assessment that concentrates in the existence of fact and deals with sensibility. This means that this assessment focuses on the application of task in real world setting. Authentic assessments, students are given tasks to perform that have applications in real life rather than just selecting an answer, as is the case on a standardized test

2.       How was authentic assessment used? Was it used to measure learning through the product?

The teacher used authentic assessment by letting his students make their own garden. The students cultivate the soil and plant seed. They are the one who experience or put into action the task had given to them. Yes it was used to measure learning through the product.

Reflection

What are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?

For me the application of authentic assessment is one of the best ways in assessing the students, because through this they can relate much they are the one directly do the action.

Describe how the teacher used the authentic assessment?
The teacher used authentic assessment by letting his students make their own garden. The students cultivate the soil and plant seed. They are the one who experience or put into action the task had given to them.

How did you feel about the teacher’s experience in the use of authentic assessment?

I feel great because I am now more knowledgeable on how authentic assessment can be applied and on how it contribute to the development of one’s life, for its gives true to life experience.

What could be the gains of the students and teachers in using authentic assessment?

Authentic assessment can give the teacher more direct evidence about how the student arrives at an answer and takes some of the guesswork out of trying to understand how much a student has really learned. And it allows students to find a way to demonstrate their knowledge that best suits them.

Which part of the teacher’s use of authentic assessment do you feel like improving or revising?

The teacher should put an innovation on using authentic assessment, which still provides learning to all the students. Ensuring the fairness to all the students to be assess.

What are the best features of my process-oriented performance assessment design?
the best features of my process-oriented performance assessment design:
Ø  Determine what you intend to accomplish.
  Ø  develop  learning competencies
Ø  Instructions or directions are clear on doing the task.
Ø  The students should know the criteria
Ø  The task must be time-bounded

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of my process-oriented      performance assessment design?

To have a successful process-oriented performance assessment design we must consider our learning    objectives, the purpose of the assessment and availability of resources. If possible the task is authentic.  We should provide criteria in rating students’ performance and for students also to know how to    improve their task. We should provide criteria in rating students’ performance and for students also to know how to improve their task.

What basic points should the user of this design consider?
These are the points that should consider:
  Ø  Identify the learning objectives
Ø  The learner’s abilities and competencies, also financial status and personal relations.
Ø  Identify the focus of the activity.
Ø  Write a plan for the activity
Ø  Select and develop the principal activity type.
Ø  Define the success or performance criteria

ANALYSIS

1.       Why do teachers need to give attention to the students’ process-oriented tasks? Why do they need to assess them?

Teachers need to give attention to the students’ process-oriented task, because for me performing the given task is very important matter that reflects a learner. The teacher needs to monitor the students as they perform the task so that he could be able to guide and correct them if they fail to follow instruction. For a single miss or mistake in following the procedures can lead to failure of the task.

2.       In what conditions can the process-oriented performance assessment be used appropriately

Process oriented performance can be used to measure students’ ability to follow instructions. It also measure students’ psycho motor domain on how students able to perform the desired task following the given procedures. Here are some conditions to be made directly or indirectly:
The purpose of the assessment should benefit the learners and must be aligned to the learning objective. If the learners’ competencies where enough to sustain the activity.Instruction or directions in doing the task must comprehendible. And if the learning environment was suitable to them.

Reflection

Make reflections on your feelings and thoughts about the observations made in this FS.
.
Student performance evaluations are an important way for teachers to assess the effectiveness of their instruction. However, teachers should first determine what information they want to gather from their student performance evaluations. By setting goals for the information you want to gather from your student performance evaluations, you will be able to better tailor your class to the learning styles of your students.

Process-oriented performance assessment emphasis on student’s ability to perform tasks by following instruction with their knowledge and skills.  Future educator we must always put in our mind how important assessment is. Whatever type of assessment we will apply, we need to consider its fairness and effectiveness.

What are the best features of my product-oriented performance assessment design?

Concepts that may be associated  with task designing  include:

      ·         Complexity  – needs  to be within  range of  the  ability of  t he students. Too simple tasks are un interesting, too complicated are frustrating.

      ·         Appeal– task should be interesting enough so that the students are encouraged to complete the task.

      ·         Goal Based – Bear in mind that the task is produced in order to attain the learning objectives. Projects are assigned not only for the sake of producing an output but reinforcing learning.

What specific conditions are necessary for a successful use of my product-oriented performance assessment design?

Follow the instructions and rules correctly.

What basic points should the user of this design consider?

v The emphasis of the task should be on the set objectives.

v The assessment conditions, prompts, and directions must be clearly defined the product expected to be produced.

v The task must be authentic.

v There must be well designed scoring rubrics.

v The task should develop students’ competencies.

Analysis

·         Do you think your originally design product-oriented performance assessment can appropriately assess the teacher’s learning objective? Why? Why not?

Yes, because as long as the task designed is justifiable match for the targeted content and applied in most appropriate way.

·         Why do teachers need to give attention to the students’ product-oriented tasks? Why do they need to assess them?

The teacher needs to give attention to the students product oriented task, because the teachers’ guidance and assistance to the students can lead to proper performance of the task. Giving attention to them can help them a good quality and well- refined product.

The teachers need to assess students because assessment is not just a part of education. But it is an umbrella concept that encompasses different teaching strategies and uses.

·         In what conditions can the product-oriented performance assessment be need more appropriately?

The product-oriented performance assessment is can be used when the teacher wants to assess the students different learning competencies in making an output.

Reflections
Write your reflection of thoughts, feelings, personal learning strategies, insights or new understanding from your experience in using authentic assessment. Then share your reflection with your FS teacher and classmates. Also draw some insights from your classmates’ sharing.
After answering all the questions in this field study I realized that as a future teacher we should be more observant and give more attention to our pupils/students because all of them have a different characteristics and capabilities that we should enhance through the use of different methods, strategies and assessment tools. Also, after answering this field study I understand how a teacher should be in dealing his/her pupils. And through this I have learned many things that I can use when I am already in the field of teaching. That in giving assessment is a task that we need to think and examine carefully and we should based it on the learners and the learning objectives for it to be successfully done.

The Field Study 5 serves as an eye opener for me, because through this, I now understand how important the role of a teacher to his/her students’ life. Our role as educator could change the future of this generation.

The FS5 which is entitled “Learning Assessment Strategies” erudite me on how can I give a high quality assessment to my future students. It also clarifies the things I should consider in designing and applying a task. Assessment is not just a basis in giving grades but a key to develop one’s strength and improve one’s weakness. Education without assessment is stagnant.

To our future students we should give not only knowledge but wisdom, not only courage but boldness, and not only a change but a transformation. We should not just teach them but we must love them.
